I also believe that Expression needs to adopt the Ribbon interface. Breaking the dependancy on Office's spellcheck feature? Really? A weak thesaurus? No grammar checker? No reference desk? Sure, I can edit content in Word and then bring it over into Expression, but why should I have to? There is a reason why people appreciate the dependancies within Microsoft Office. However, I completely disagree that Expression needs to run away from the Office system. Perhaps that is attributable to th new WPF system.

I agree that Expression needs to be as current as possible to keep up with web standards, and it's come a long way in doing that. Hopefully the move to WPF will make creating add-ins less difficult and not require recompiling for each version. That is a big part of what makes Dreamweaver and Visual Studio successful.

com) Getting a stable, well documented extensibility model is essential. The 5 years between IE6 and IE7 cost ms to go from 86% market share to less than 40% Even on consumer sites IE has dropped to 55% from a high of 96% a few years ago. MS has learned that they can't wait years between IE releases if they want to maintain market share. Web design and browser support for current and emerging specifications changes at a much more rapid pace than Office can or should. They do not control browser implementation of the w3c specifications. Yes, I know there are other apps the can read Word files but MS defines what is a Word file. Contrast this with Word output that either is to a piece of paper or to someone with Word. If I look at the statistics on my client's websites I see a minimum of 20 operating systems, at least as many browsers (from text only Lynx to nightly builds of Firefox) to proprietary java based cellphone browsers. It sucks eggs at web design because you cannot ever have the presentation control on the web you have in print or in a closed system such as an internet.

Office is great for print, for data manipulation and presentations. The major issue with FrontPage was its ties to Office. Cliff, Office applications and internet web design should NEVER be linked together.
